I had heard great things about Pastis and was a bit apprehensive when I went there for my first visit. A lot of the time things can get built up making your expectations greater than the reality. However, on a sunny Friday afternoon there would be no need to worry. To call this place fantastique would be an understatement.
The first thing you notice about Pastis is the energy. It lives and breathes everything French. It’s authentic from the staff to the menu to the décor. No university students here.
We had breads and dips to tickle the tastebuds first. They were solid without being spectacular. The two dips were pate and a sundried tomato.
The real reason I came here was for their crepes. I’ve always been a crepe-hater if I’m telling the truth and savoury crepes never made much sense to me. I decided however to have the chicken and mushroom crepe with a salad. I ordered this with a side of French fries too. The crepe was awesome! The chicken and portabello mushrooms came in a cream sauce. More importantly the sauce was the right consistency allowing me to dip my fries. The fries came with their own ailoi which had a bit of wholegrain English mustard to give it a kick (we can forgive the French for that, can’t we?).
To finish it off, I had a banana and chocolate crepe and an espresso for dessert. It was the perfect ending to a great meal.
The menu at Pastis is very affordable with most crepes around the $15 mark. The most expensive thing on the menu was the eye fillet which was about $30 which makes Pastis a great place to eat with friends or on a business lunch.
