The Dominion: Redemption

After reading about our first encounter with The Dominion and the infamous Potatogate scandal, I received an email from the General Manager apologising for the service we experienced and the duty manager’s behaviour. He encouraged The Corporate Lunchbox to give The Dominion a second chance (on the house), so yesterday we took him up on the offer and had a much better experience.

First change – the waiter was confident and helpful. I ordered the rump steak and requested the potatoes were replaced with vegetables – same as last time. The waiter confirmed this was do-able straight away, no questions why I was making the request and no referring to a patronising duty manager – great start!

Second change – speed and accuracy. Our meals came out in a timely manner and as requested. I ordered my steak medium rare and was presented with a large and juicy steak topped with garlic butter on freshly steamed winter vegetables. It was a joy to consume!

I stand by my comments that the dark grey exterior of the pub can look a little unwelcoming and the interior lacks the character and charm of other more historic establishments. But catch it on a cold winter’s day and the design elements fade into the background of an otherwise warm and cosy pub.

When it gets it right, The Dominion has the potential to provide a good experience and quality food at a reasonable price.
