BMWs, platinum blondes, grannies, I must be on the North Shore – Takapuna to be exact. But fear not, there is actually a surprisingly good selection of little gems to tantalize the taste buds and keep you going in the afternoon hours counting down to home time. One of these is Kiwi Sandwich, a sandwich joint that is basically a Kiwiana version of subway.
As you walk in you’re met with a bountiful selection of meats and sauces. The service is friendly, the décor simple verging on small town dairy, quite narrow and hand to maneuver around when it’s busy but you’re not there for the ambiance, your there for the HUGE sandwiches (3 slices of bread, one separating layer) inexpensive at $7.50 each.
Salami Sandwich – Kiwi Sandwich
What really sold me on Kiwi Sandwich? You get to pick more than one sauce/salad without paying some ridiculous extra cost. My fellow employee went for the healthy option, a wrap, all fresh ingredients, nice veggies and tasty sauces. I ordered a sandwich on grainy bread, salami as my meat and salads galore. They also have weekly additions to the menu, such as soups, nachos, smoothies depending on what day you are there.
All of these factors resulted in one tasty morsel that didn’t make you need to have a nap at 3pm. We had to take away as there is no seating in the facility – this I assume keeps the cost down, which I’m more than happy with, making everything fast and easy. Kiwi Sandwich is a great alternative to the global sandwich chains.
