Auckland Burger Power Rankings

The Corporate Lunchbox is on a burger binge. We know that it’s a little low brow, but our research shows that many corporate lunch eaters consider spending their hard-earned cash on burgers. We aim to help these people make informed decisions.

1. Big J’s Takeaway – Burger of the Week, always different and always delicious. Big J gets freaky with premium ingredients delivering mind-blowing sandwiches for a cool $7.50. Worth the drive out to Penrose for the experience. Read more…

2. The Flaming Onion – taking a leaf out of Big J’s extensive play book. High spec and heavy weight burgers that will satisfy even the staunchest burger critics. Best buns in Auckland. Read more…

3=. Burger Queen - Big, intense, meat-sweat-inducing burgers that are nearly untamable. Approach with an open mind  and empty stomach and you are sure to burgasm. Read more…

3=. Burger Fuel - This is a huge call and likely to be debated by some, but BurgerFuel still makes a damn good burger! Delicious ingredients, great service and convenient locations. A consistant high performer. Read more…

5=. Murder Burger - Big badass gourmet burgers that quash any righteous thought’s about becoming a vegetarian. Burgers of proper proportion that massage the taste buds and leave you in a sense of meat-filled ecstasy. You’ll pay through the nose for it. Read more…

5=. Char Grill - these are big, well-balanced burgers, with a wide variety of options, including bacon, avocado, chicken, camembert, cranberry, blue cheese. It’s open 24 hours and wields a liquor license, making it the perfect venue for pre, during or post responsible alcohol enjoyment. Read more…

7. Burger Wisconsin – Adequate. It wasn’t bad. But it lacked the mojo and charisma expected of a burger joint in its price bracket. The burger equivalent of Don Brash. Read more..

8. Wendy’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers - Wendy’s delivers great value for money and deliciously fresh burgers. It’s recent partnership with the Warriors has added extra novelty factor. Read more…

9. Handmade Burgers - overrated. Handmade is a disappointment. Terrible bun to beef ratio; small, dry, and processed patty; expensive and slow. Why would you go there? Read more…

10. Carl’s Jr - Carl’s Jr is great if you’re feeling like some back to basics binge eating and is possibly the food equivalent of downing a dozen Double Browns in one sitting. It’s a classic example of unhealthy, oversized meal from the people that introduced the foot-long cheeseburger to America. Read More…

11. Kiwiana Burger -  very average. The bun was average, the sauce was average, the meat had bits of gristle, and it overall sucked. Everything about it screamed “we don’t really care about taste or flavour”. Read more…
